INTRODUCTION TO NAVIGATION
Are you new to hill walking, a regular walker, but always follow a book, or have never learned to use a compass? If so, this is the course for you!
Our 1 day map reading course which will set you up with the basics of using a map and compass over easy terrain. We will introduce the fundamental skills of navigation around the beautiful Peak District.
We aim to spend as must time in the hills as possible giving you the perfect opportunity to build your confidence, map reading techniques and some experience of using a compass.
The course starts with an inside session followed by a walk through fields and easy terrain using a map and compass.
The Course Covers:
Use of different maps
How to take a 6 figure grid reference.
The compass and its uses.
Orienting the map without use of compass.
Map to land and land to map.
Planning routes and emergency process.

Duration: 1 day
Standard hill walking gear includes good walking boots/shoes and waterproofs as the weather can change significantly over the course of a day. We can provide map and compasses, please feel free to bring your own.
Please remember a packed lunch and drinks.
With a few expeditions, participates aged 15 + can attend our courses independently (Please check with us before booking), if not they must be accompanied by an parent or guardian.
We do offer family days out for the kids age 7+ and do arrange navigation courses for kids age 7+
